Refresh Teaching
P+ was presented at the Refresh Teaching event of ETH. Andreas presented the evolutions from the pilot project in P+ in 2023 to the Innovedum-funded second edition in 2024. The slides can be found on the Refresh Teaching website.Learning and Teaching Fair
Daniela Rupp and Andreas Eggenberger presented the P+ at the Learning and Teaching Fair of ETH Zurich. This fair is dedicated to highly successful, innovative teaching projects. The contribution of the P+ can be found on the L&T website.Visit of Carl Wiemann
On 15th of May, Carl Wieman, Nobel Laureate and passionate didactics specialist, visited the P+ and enganged in a discussion of how to teach experimental skills in an ideal way. The discussion with students and teaching assistants was stimulating for all of us. We feel honoured and proud that after only 2 semesters of P+ it is already considered a highly valuable and beneficial learning opportunity for our motivated students!2023
Funding by INNOVEDUM
The first pilot project was run in spring semester 2023. Apart from a lot of fun and fascinating, cool experiments, the feedback for P+ was extraordinarily great! In order to improve capacity and make the P+ a sustainable, permanent alternative to the physics lab P2, Daniela & Andreas asked for funding by the Innovedum Initiative. In December 2023, P+ was rewarded with (financial) support through the Innovedum initiative. This allows us to hire students' assistants for supervising the next generation of P+ participants in FS 2024, as well as to start a small workshop where setups for the experiments can be built. The financial support will continue from the department of physics in FS 2025, allowing for hiring 6 student's assistants again.
Pilot Project: P+
In the spring semester 2023, a pilot projected called "Projected-based Physics Lab for Undergraduate Sudents" (PPLUS, or shorter: P+) was launched. P+ offered an alternative to the regular physics lab P2 for 18 motivated students, where the students had the possibility to plan, build, perform and analyse one's own experiments under supervision of an experienced teaching assistant.
2022
An idea is bornThe idea of P+ developed during autumn 2022 in close exchange between Andreas and Daniela. First drafts of teaching concepts were written, and the students were informed for the first time on the information event in December 2022. While originally we planned to allow 12 students for the P+, already on the information event we increased the capacity to 18. The demand from the student side was incredibly high: About 35 students signed up for the 18 available slots in the pilot project!
